One video a day for a month???

Hi all!

Since the COVID-19 pandemic made it here to Toronto I took the time to produce new content for everyone to enjoy. In fact, I put out a new video each day, 6 days a week for 4 weeks!

Find the videos on my youtube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/user/erezsussman

You can find all the videos produced during the pandemic in my Living in Isolation Playlist.

Among the videos I produced are recordings on oud, exercise videos, solo guitar recordings, remastered archival material (including edited footage from recording/travelling on the west coast), “Francisco Fridays” (recordings of Francisco Tarrega’s music), and I am completing the final 2 movements of Sierra’s Sonata para Guitarra.

Its time for me to slow down all this content creation as other life priorities are kicking in, but I plan to continue recording Francisco Fridays, finishing the Sierra Sonata, and will continue putting out new editions from my West Coast Clips collection. I would also like to use the time to develop some more material that has been on the back burner for a while… There’s a lot I would like to do musically – both solo and with others, and down the line I would like to finally create a new album too!

If you are able to self-isolate, it is a very good time to work on your own creative projects! It is also a good time to help those in need if you are in a position to do so. Hope you are all staying healthy and safe, and wishing you all the best!

New Video! Francisco Fridays – ¡Marieta!

This week’s Francisco Friday selection is ¡Marieta! (titled in one instance as Tristeza).

You can hear in this Mazurka, as well as many of Tarrega’s other pieces, the influence of the Romantic pianist Frédéric Chopin. In fact, Tarrega transcribed some of Chopin’s works for the guitar. Enjoy!

Francisco Tarrega
Spanish guitarist of the Romantic Era, he is the godfather of the classical guitar. Visually impaired, yet prolific, precocious, and free-spirited, he left a legacy of beautiful, iconic music.

New Video! Francisco Fridays – Pavane

This week’s selection for Francisco Friday is the Pavane.

The Pavane is a dance form from the Renaissance era in 2 or 4 beats. Tarrega’s Pavane is yet another tender and delicious bite of Romantic-era guitar music. Enjoy!

New Video! In the Wheat Fields – West Coast Clips

Hey all, today’s new video features a real Spanish classic by the composer Joaquin Rodrigo. In these times, I’m sure we are all with the people of Spain that are going through a very difficult time dealing with the pandemic.

This was recorded when I was travelling Washington State with Eddie Raskin and we spent some time working on a farm. The piece is titled En Los Trigales, or In the Wheat Fields… So it is a fitting venue.

Wishing you health and safety!

New Video! Erez and Friends perform Alonzo live

Back when we played at The Emmet Ray! The footage was so rough and dark when I found it in the ‘vault’. Thankfully I was able to clean up the video and audio enough to bring you an accessible clip where you can even see our conga man Brian way in the back by the wall.

This is “Alonzo” – our version based on vibes player Cal Tjader, but written by Lonnie Hewitt.

Jon McMurray on Cajon
Brian Edwards on Congas
Colin Nimblett on Cabasa
Ken McDonald on Bass
